Local Connections that raised £2,231.161 for Sreepur Village

We are delighted to share with you highlights from our fantastic Cambridge event we hosted on the 13th September.

Around 40 supporters, including their friends and family joined us at Golpol Bengal Café & Restaurant in Cambridge for an afternoon of celebration, handmade crafts, and moving stories from Sreepur Village.

The event was organised with the help of two of our supporters, Dorothy and Jahana and together with our guests we raised £2,231.16 — a wonderful achievement that will bring safety and hope to more families arriving at Sreepur Village this year. In fact, this amount raised would provide 111 mothers and their children with 3 nutritious meals for a month.

Dorothy who also kindly volunteers her time selling our handmade products locally at her church fetes and occasionally at Ely Cathedral said,"It was a wonderful event and local supporters of Sreepur Village enjoyed meeting up with others who live nearby or at least in the same part of the county to enjoy some delicious Bengali food, share their stories and reasons for supporting the charity and in some cases make plans to visit Bangladesh together at some point. We all felt part of a support community rather than individual donors, and this, alongside hearing first hand from trustees Sabbir Karim  and Becky Horsbrugh made for a very special occasion."

Jahana, who, together with her family has visited Bangladesh said, The Cambridge gathering was a great success. It was a chance to meet local and London supporters and raise some funds in a vibrant space with delicious Bangladeshi food. I was able to introduce some new faces to the Charity who were all very impressed with the amazing work being done. Inspired by the artisan weavers of Sreepur village, we even had a table of children trying to weave (using card) Thank you Emma and team for making this possible.

It is events like these that remind us how powerful community support can be. The generosity of our supporters enables single mothers and their children, who once lived in fear, to feel safe, supported, and hopeful for the future.
