Taking Flight Together: A Journey of Hope

Taking Flight Together: A Journey of Hope

What began with one British Airways flight attendant’s compassion at 35,000 feet has grown into an over-four-decades-long mission of transformation.  On Saturday 14th June, we came together at Salaam Namaste restaurant to recognise and thank British Airways staff, past and present, for their support for Sreepur Village.

The Tea & Tiffin afternoon, beautifully hosted by trustee and inflight lead Sabbir Karim, brought together past and present BA crew, Sreepur trustees, and distinguished guests – including the Mayor of Haringey and Theresa Devereux, daughter of former BA crew leader Gerry Devereux, who worked alongside Sreepur founder Pat Kerr in the early days of this inspiring journey.

Pat's vision, sparked by the plight of orphaned children in Bangladesh, led to the founding of Sreepur Village – a place where struggling single mothers and their children can find safety, shelter, support, and a path to independence. With the backing of British Airways and its crew, this mission has soared for over 36 years.

As we shared stories over a vibrant Bangladeshi meal, we honoured the legacy of compassion and service that continues to unite us. Funds were raised through donations, a raffle, and the sale of Pat’s biography, all of which will directly support our families in need, keeping the spirit of Sreepur flying high.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for this special event. Your presence and generosity ensure that this journey, one of hope, unity, and change, continues to climb to new heights.
