Breaking the Cycle: One Girl’s Fight to Stay in School.

When Parul’s father could no longer provide for his family, her future hung in the balance. In Bangladesh, girls like Parul face a stark reality: once they leave school, they rarely return. Many are pushed into early marriage. Others become trapped in cycles of poverty that span generations. But Parul’s mother refused to accept this fate for her daughter. She made the courageous decision to bring Parul to Sreepur Village when her father became unable to financially maintain the household – determined that her daughter would not become another lost statistic.

By the time Parul arrived at Sreepur Village, she had already missed critical months of secondary schooling. The gap was widening. Without intervention, she would have fallen too far behind to recover. Instead, she is now back in the classroom, enrolled in Class 8, and attending school every single day.

The transformation has been remarkable. Parul has thrown herself into English and Mathematics, subjects that will open doors to employment and financial independence. She attends every after-school study session. Her teachers report a young woman who has found her focus, her confidence, and her determination to see this through.

Parul knows exactly what she is working towards. She will finish secondary school. She will find work. And she will lift her mother out of the hardship that brought them here.

“I want to finish my studies and do something good so I can help my mother,” says Parul.

For Parul’s mother, the relief is profound. The fear that haunted her – watching her daughter’s opportunities slip away – has been replaced by something she had almost forgotten how to feel: hope.

“I was afraid my daughter would drop out of school. Now I see her studying every day and preparing for exams. I believe she will complete her education,” says Parul’s mother.

Parul represents thousands of adolescent girls across Bangladesh standing at the same crossroads. The difference between a life of possibility and a life of limitation often comes down to one thing: whether someone steps in at the critical moment. Sreepur Village stepped in for Parul. Every girl deserves that chance.
