Julekha's shop, Julekha's terms
Julekha arrived at Sreepur Village in 2021 from Sunamganj, with three children and very little else. Her husband was unable to work due to ill health, and with no income and no safety net, she had run out of options. Those first weeks were hard. She lay awake worrying about how she would feed her children, keep them in school, and give them any kind of stable future.
Over the three years she spent at Sreepur Village, Julekha threw herself into every opportunity available to her. She trained in tailoring, agriculture, duck and goat rearing, and small business management. It did not come easily at first — she doubted whether she could really learn these things, whether she was capable of standing on her own. But gradually, that doubt gave way to something else.
As her skills grew, so did her confidence. She started to believe that she could build a different kind of life — not just for herself, but for her children. Seeing them stay in education, knowing she was part of making that possible, gave her real purpose.
By the time Julekha left in 2024, she was ready. With support from the team at Sreepur Village, she returned home and set up her own shop. Today she runs it herself, earns a regular income, and covers her children's school costs without relying on anyone else.
In her own words: "I came here with nothing but fear. Today, I return with skills, confidence, and the courage to build my own future."
