Rearing a goat to sell in the marketplace helps a mother and her family become self-sufficient. Many of our mothers, especially those in the rural char communities of northern Bangladesh, keep a goat to use for its milk. If a woman chooses to sell her goat she can often make 50 to 60 % of the initial investment price.
