Thanks to your incredible generosity during our 2024 Big Give Christmas Challenge - It Takes A Village to Educate a Child, we raised £28,322 to transform education for children at Sreepur Village. Your support has created real, lasting change for 248 children who arrived at our doors having experienced disrupted schooling, malnutrition, and the trauma of poverty.
The Challenge We Faced Together
Children arriving at Sreepur Village face enormous barriers to education. Many have missed years of schooling due to poverty, family crisis, and displacement. They struggle with malnutrition, health problems, and often lack the family support needed to thrive academically. Without intervention, these challenges trap families in cycles of poverty that pass from generation to generation.
How Your Donations Are Changing Lives
Your support has transformed our learning environment. We have upgraded classrooms, installed new computers, expanded our library, and improved washing and toilet facilities. These changes might seem basic, but they have sparked something wonderful: children are excited to come to school. Teachers are reporting that attendance has improved and students are more engaged than ever before.
Investing in Teachers, Investing in Futures
We trained 10 teachers who now feel equipped to support children with disrupted education histories. These educators report feeling motivated and better prepared to meet each child where they are. One teacher told us: "I now understand how to help children who have missed so much school. I can see their confidence growing every day."
Nourishing Bodies and Minds
We recruited nutritionists who provided targeted support to 58 children suffering from severe malnutrition, whilst ensuring all 248 children receive regular, balanced meals. The impact has been remarkable: children can now concentrate in class, participate actively, and have the energy to learn and play. Our clinic provided 2,535 treatments throughout the year, keeping children healthy and in school.
Engaging Mothers, Transforming Families
Through workshops, we engaged mothers in their children's education, helping them understand how learning can transform futures. Mothers now actively support their children's learning at home, creating a culture where education is valued and celebrated. This shift in family aspirations creates sustainable change that will benefit generations to come.
The Impact in Numbers

- 248 children (138 girls and 110 boys) received quality education in improved facilities
- Upgraded classrooms, new computers, expanded libraries, and improved sanitation facilities
- 10 teachers trained to deliver excellent education
- 58 children received targeted nutritional support
- 2,535 medical treatments provided throughout the year
- All 248 children received regular, balanced, nutritious meals
- Family engagement workshops raising aspirations and creating lasting support systems
What We Have Learnt
This project has reinforced what we have always known: lasting educational improvement requires a joined-up approach. Physical improvements to facilities only work when combined with teacher training, nutritional support, healthcare, and family engagement.
We have learnt that some children need more individual support than others to catch up after missing years of schooling. Going forward, we are developing better systems to identify struggling students early and provide tailored help. We are also strengthening our links with local education authorities to ensure support continues long into the future.
