Over the course of three decades, he climbed the corporate ladder, assuming progressively senior roles including Market Research Manager, Regional Director of Europe and America, Director of Asia Pacific, and ultimately, Group Communications Director.

During his time at De Beers, he played a pivotal role in expanding diamond markets into key regions such as Japan, China, and the Middle East. Additionally, Derek is known for the development and promotion of iconic diamond product concepts, including engagement rings, tennis bracelets, journey, right hand ring and three-stone rings. These products have since become the cornerstones of the modern diamond jewelry market across the globe.

In 2004, Derek joined Pluczenik, one of the world’s largest Diamond companies operating in the mid- stream of the diamond industry. At Pluczenik, he assumed the role of Group Marketing Director, where he has been instrumental in the development of both upstream and downstream marketing activities across major consumer markets. Derek also took charge of all ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) and CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives across the group.

Derek’s career showcases his dedication to the diamond industry and his involvement in philanthropic endeavors. His contributions at both De Beers and Pluczenik have left a lasting impact on the diamond industry, and his commitment to responsible business practices underscores his dedication to making a positive difference in the world.
