I am a journalist, keen swimmer and a swim teacher who first came across Sreepur Village when I was researching the issue of drowning in Bangladesh. More than 40 children drown every day in the country – one of the highest figures in the world. I was keen to use my skills in any way I could, and first visited Sreepur around 6 years ago, to help teach swimming there. I was so impressed by the work carried out by Pat and her team that I wanted to do more. Since then I have done what I can to visit and help swim teaching, and generally support the village in any way I can.

Sreepur Village is an incredible charity that really does help change the lives of the women and children who spend time there. It empowers the mothers so they can learn new skills. Once they are back in their villages they are able to support themselves and their families and feel a real sense of purpose. I dearly want the work at Sreepur to continue for decades to come, so more women and children feel they have a future to look forward to.
